Stones
Many of igneous rocks are extensively used as materials for construction. Due to very high crushing strength Granites, Syenites and Dolerite are used most of construction works, Basalt and other dark coloured igneous rock are not used in Residential buildings but these are much useful for foundation and roadstones.
Bricks
The most common types of bricks used in construction are based on clay as the material. These include burnt clay brick and fire clay brick. These are usually referred to as common brick. Burnt clay brick is created from clay that is either molded, dry-pressed, or extruded and then dried and fired in a kiln.
Sands
Sand is a type of naturally occurring material that is of a granular, loose, fragmented composition, consisting of particulate matter such as rock, coral, shells, and so on. Sand is typically finer than gravel but coarser than silt. The precise composition of sand varies depending on its source and the conditions prevalent at that location. In in-land continental regions, the predominant constituent of sand is silica (silicon dioxide), typically in the form of quartz.
Cements
Cement is a substance used for binding and hardening other materials. Cement can be mixed with a fine aggregate and water to produce mortar, used in masonry construction as a bedding and adhesive to bind and fill the gaps between adjacent blocks of brick, concrete or stone. It can be also be mixed with water, aggregates (such as gravel, sand or rock), and sometimes admixtures, to form concrete, and can be used to make renders, screeds and so on.
Red Earth
Red Earth can be used as a constructional / building material in bricks, blocks, light weight aggregates, roofing tiles, glass ceramics, cement industry as cements and special cements, and concrete industry.
Red earth showed good prospect as alternative to the use of river sand in sandcrete block production for developing nations.
